Why Your Healthy Habits Aren’t Sticking (And the Simple Shift That Changes Everything)
If you’ve ever felt like your wellness goals are just one more thing on your already overflowing plate, you aren’t alone.
And if you’ve ever told yourself, “I just need to be more consistent”…
and then immediately felt a little defeated reading that back—this is for you.
Midlife can feel overwhelming at times.
You’re juggling a lot between kids, work, partners, parents (sandwich gen) and just trying to keep it all together.
And your body is changing in ways that don’t exactly make things easier.
So when another “just build better habits” message shows up, it can be super annoying and can feel out of reach.
Here’s the shift I want you to consider instead.
You don’t need more motivation.
You need better placement.
One of the biggest things I see with midlife women is this:
you’re trying to add new habits into an already full life.
Drink more water.
Take supplements.
Walk more.
Eat more protein.
Manage stress.
Sleep better.
It starts to feel like a second job.
And when it doesn’t stick? You assume it’s you.
It’s not.
This is where habit stacking changes everything.
Instead of creating something new, you attach a new habit to something you already do automatically.
We can all thank James Clear for writing his best seller, Atomic Habits (highly recommend if you haven’t read) where he popularizes the concept of habit stacking.
Habit stacking is a gamechanger because-
you’re not going to forget your morning coffee.
Or brushing your teeth.
Or getting dressed.
Those are anchors. And we use them.
Here’s what this can look like in your everyday life:
• While your coffee brews → drink a full glass of water with electrolytes
• After you brush your teeth → take your supplements
• While making dinner → prep tomorrow’s breakfast or protein
• After you get into bed → 3 minutes of deep breathing instead of scrolling
Nothing dramatic. No overhaul.
Just small shifts that start to compound.
And this matters even more in midlife.
Because your body is changing.
Your energy isn’t what it used to be.
And willpower? It’s not reliable when hormones are all over the place.
Habit stacking takes the pressure off.
You don’t have to “try harder.”
You just make it easier to follow through.
That’s how real change happens now.
Not extremes.
Not starting over every Monday.
Just building momentum in a way that actually fits your life.
If you’ve been feeling stuck or like nothing is sticking, this is usually where I start with my clients.
We simplify. We anchor. We build from there.
If you want a simple, structured place to start, my 5-Day Midlife Reset walks you through 5 days of simple, daily shifts like this so you can learn how to adopt habits without overthinking it.
And if you’re ready for something more personalized, my 1:1 coaching is where we tailor this to your body, your symptoms, and your life.
Either way—start small. Start smart.
It adds up faster than you think!
